Meet Susan Harris
I'm pleased to introduce you to Susan Harris, one of the people who has inspired my work with horses over many years. I first met Sue in 1970 when I was deciding about colleges. She was teaching at a horsemanship school in upstate New York, and my parents drove me there to consider it as an alternative to college. In the end, I decided on the college route. But something about that brief first meeting — and I can't recall whether we even spoke or I just heard her giving a lesson — encouraged me that I, too could be a good riding instructor. Over the years, I've had occasion to hear Susan speak at various expos and clinics, and I've taken a couple of lessons from her, when she was in our area. I very much appreciate her clear teaching style, which is also reflected in her writing. I can recommend her books highly, with Horse Gaits Balance and Movement being one of my all time favorites. In 1993, I took Susan to lunch at Equine Affaire to tell her that she had inspired me and my career. She asked what I was doing, and at the time I was marketing director for Breakthrough Publications, a company that publishes books on horses. I told her my real passion was to write a book that had to do with horses and God. I can still hear her telling me that I must do that. She's one of the most encouraging and enthusiastic people I've met in the horse industry. Susan is a gifted artist, with a specialty in horse anatomy. You can learn more about her at her website, Anatomy in Motion.
