Meet Molly the Pony

Molly is an 11-hand POA. She survived Hurricane Katrina and was later attacked by a dog while at the rescue facility. Most of her injuries healed fine. One foot and lower leg, however did not heal. Her owner, Kaye Harris, was faced with a dilemma. By then, Molly had learned to get around on three legs, but it was only a matter of time until her good leg couldn’t support her. So Kaye persuaded Louisiana State University to amputate and develop a prosthetic leg for Molly.

Molly is doing great and visits children’s hospitals, cancer centers, and all sorts of venues where she is an inspiration. She truly connects with people of all kinds, but especially the handicapped, disabled, and people who have been through rough times.

Last year, an award-winning children’s book — Molly the Pony — was published and became #1 on Amazon for weeks.

A few months ago, I (Maureen) met Molly in New Orleans where she lives and saw how truly inspirational she is. Kaye has been swamped with requests for Molly appearances, so we are putting together a tour for the coming year, and I am working on a book about Molly and the inspiration she provides.

We’ve just returned from Lexington, KY, where we were able to arrange for Molly to be in the Equine Village during the World Equestrian Games in 2010. WEG anticipates there will be in excess of 600,000 spectators, plus exhibitors from 60 countries. Molly will be one of the spectators at the para-equestrian competition! Nothing like a three-legged pony rooting for you!
